Debbie Boone, BS, CVPM, has worked in the veterinary profession for more than 35 years. After earning her bachelor’s degree in animal science from North Carolina State University, her duties as a client care representative quickly transitioned into hospital administration. As a result, Debbie’s experience spans the management spectrum of small-animal, mixed-animal, specialty, and emergency practices.

Debbie is an expert in team communication — from creating positive practice culture and developing workable solutions to improving veterinary practices. Her business, 2 Manage Vets Consulting, helps practices develop extraordinary team communication and business skills, enhancing patient care and improving profitability while increasing practice value. She strives to improve the lives of our beloved pets by using her expertise to improve workplace culture and the well-being of veterinary professionals.

Session 1: Basic Communication Skills

Objectives

  1. To learn the 3 basic ways humans communicate with each other.
  2. To understand how reactivity causes us to respond with emotion rather than logic
  3. To learn the 4 basic personality styles of humans and how to best work with each.

Session 2: Managing and Avoiding Conflict

Objectives

  1. To learn about how the brain is responsible for reactivity.
  2. To learn to recognize and manage difficult conversations with others
  3. To learn to control our emotions in challenging situations with self-talk and reflection on desired outcomes.

Session 3: Dealing With Crazy

Objectives

  1. To learn about emotional intelligence and how to utilize it in relations with others
  2. To gain mindfulness and learn to be a detached observer of situations in order to better cope with others.
  3. To understand how detrimental incivility is to wellbeing at home and in the workplace
  4. To learn skills to cope with highly reactive people

  2. To learn how good systems can stop or at least slow theft
  3. To learn what red flags to watch for that indicate embezzlement
